Wilkinson's Woodwoking is based in Spotsylvania County Virgina, just outside of historic Fredericksburg. Started in 1997 after retiring from the U.S. Navy, it was an opportunity to continue and expand his interest in woodworking, which had been previously limited by a lack of time and frequent moves.
Over the years his projects included: replicating and carving tombstones for a historical cemetery, creating an Irish pub bar, refinishing and restoring vintage pool tables and designing custom built-in cabinetry for a home library/study as well as artistic endeavors. These endeavors concentrated, first, on smaller turned items and are now moving on to projects that are more challenging such as segmented vases. He uses a lot of local woods in his turned objects, getting inspiration from nature’s creations. Exotic woods are also used to add interest. He enjoys experimenting with new techniques to see how his turned objects evolve. In March 2007 he increased the size of his studio with a new building.
A winner of numerous awards in local shows, he is a member of Brush Strokes Gallery at 810 Caroline Street downtown Fredericksburg and shows there throughout the year as well as in other venues.
